27th June (Day 5)
After Thursday’s downpours the weather when I woke in Stoke was still questionable, so I set out dressed for winter in my boots and ‘big’ coat. That was a mistake as I felt as though I was dressed in Bacofoil (I’d make an excellent Nut Roast!).
I arrived and started to update my plan, check and reply to my emails. Simon arrived and took delivery of two pallets of boxes that were piled high, they were taller than Simon, and the Fierce is on the 6th Floor. The delivery driver just handed them over in the rain for Simon to deal with, not knowing what the delivery was or how heavy the boxes were. Simon and I armed with scissors and the trolley went down to the loading bay to unwrap and find out if we could move them! The boxes were actually manageable to carry, although they were as wide as my arms so I had a bit of difficultly carrying them.
We managed to get them all into the lift and up to the 6th floor, and unloaded onto the landing…but we had no idea where we were going to put them. Using the trolley we moved them into the Commissioner office and built a wall all around the desk I was using. They were the Artsmark Awards, and Andrew was out of the office at the event so I relocated to his desk.
Helga arrived and we arranged to go along to the event at Think Tank at Millennium Point– What should schools look like in 2020? Where the youth panel hold a conference with schools discussing and debating what school will be like in 2020? This something that ACEWM, Fierce and Bright Space had put together with the direction of the Youth Panel. We managed to catch the debate and voting, we missed the workshops that were being run by Stans Cafe, but it was great to see the children having their say and Andrew and the team deserve a medal. (I don’t think I’d be able to cope with so many kids!)
When we got back I had received a reply from Atiqur from Nex Level Event Management (Stoke), who I had emailed to find out what projects were taking place and he informed me of a Love Music Hate Racism meeting at Staffs Uni on the 9th July.
Oh…and for those who are interested in a career in the arts or looking for placement/work experience opportunity Commissioner has an opportunity for an Intern starting this month:
